NORM DOUGLAS McDONALD
Norm McDonald was the “Godfather” of Western Centre Motorcycle Racing in Victoria.
He represented the Mortlake Motorcycle Club for many years as delegate to The Auto Cycle Council of Australia and The Western Centre in Victoria.
During the 50s and 60s, Norm and the late C.J.May had a very fast HRD Black Lightning Grass Track Outfit, that won an Australian Grass Track Title in Adelaide, ridden by Charlie May and Lindsay (Gidget) Leishman. (The HRD was Norm’s pride and joy and I’d love to know where it is now!).
Norm was one of the “old brigade” of motorbike enthusiasts who, in addition to people like K.J Riley (Hamilton), Bill Rauert (Geelong) and Len Walker (Geelong), put much into keeping Motorcycling alive in those dark years when motor bikes were becoming less popular.
Those of us who knew “HND” remember how tough he could be as an administrator and a steward. And how helpful and benevolent he could be to people he saw as being genuinely in need of help with their racing.
Norm sadly died after having a massive heart attack whilst driving a truck at work.
I am honoured to have known the man.
Vale: Norm Douglas McDonald.

HISTORY OF THE CLUB
The club was formed in June 1994.
David Alsop, Stewart Young and Rodney Macdonald were re-opening the old Mortlake circuit at Mt Shadwell ready for a meeting on the Queen's Birthday weekend. At this time they were all members of another club.
Back at the Mt Shadwell Hotel that night they were talking things over, and after many cold ones came to the decision to form their own club that would give their members the chance to relive The Golden Era of Scrambling.
That was it, the idea was conceived, and with a lot of help from friends, the Classic Scramble Club Inc was born.
14 years on, the CSC Inc has 150 members and is one of the few clubs in Australia that caters for machines from the 50s, 60s and 70s only.
The logo was designed by Mr Stan Jones. In 1997 the Showgrounds in Lismore, Victoria were taken over by the club and a natutal terrain track and clubrooms were established.
Incidentally, Rod is today the President of the Classic Scramble Club and both Stewart and David are also still involved with the club to this day and will be found at nearly every club event.
